Restoration of the Gustave Eiffel Bridge with Saint-Astier® Natural Hydraulic Lime

The restoration of the Gustave Eiffel Bridge in Gironde, France, involved innovative use of Saint-Astier® TRADI 100® Natural Hydraulic Lime. Key techniques included deep gravity grout injections for structural reinforcement and lime-based mortars for stone repairs. These methods ensured the bridge’s durability, harmonizing its historical integrity with modern functionality, while addressing challenges like weather erosion and structural wear.

Conservation of the UNESCO Cornish Mining World Heritage Sites

The conservation of Cornwall and West Devon’s UNESCO-listed mining heritage highlights the use of Saint-Astier® Natural Hydraulic Lime. Restoration efforts, including repointing, wall rebuilding, and structural consolidation, employed PURE NHL5 and NHL 3.5 lime to match the original granite and other materials. These techniques have preserved the historic integrity of over 200 engine houses, iconic remnants of industrial heritage, ensuring their resilience against time and environmental challenges.

Restoration and Conservation of St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall

The ongoing restoration of St. Michael’s Mount, a historic tidal island in Cornwall, integrates Saint-Astier® Natural Hydraulic Lime solutions. Works include repointing the medieval castle, restoring gun emplacements, and applying insulating renders using PURE NHL5, NHL3.5, and NHL2 lime. These materials were chosen for their durability in the harsh coastal environment and their compatibility with historic structures. This project, managed jointly by the National Trust and the St. Levan family, preserves the island’s unique heritage for over 300,000 visitors annually.
